Upgrading the 80 gig drive to 160 gig...

Got a utility that's performing the migration of the XP Pro os, bit by bit.
Boy is it ever *bit-by-bit*

The whole process is looking to take 20 hours...

Why not just do a clean install?

That's certainly what I've done enough in the past.

In this case, I've got time to kill (sleep + work tomorrow) and when I get back, things -should- be at a point where I just swap in the new drive and tell XP to extend the dynamic volume to the new unused space, gaining 80 gig of HD space and everything carrying along happily ever after.

I've got so many things installed in XP right now and almost none of the installation CD's. It's all either been pirated (yarrr), copied, borrowed, purchased and then lost, or who the fuck knows what. And it's about 5 years worth of data all said and done. Much of which is in the bloated registry. The rest in random directories that I'm sure to never find when searching for, but would absolutely discover it's absense if I just formatted everything and started from scratch.

I do love a clean HD and no crap messing everything up. I've bit the bullet and wiped everything out in the past on other machines. This one is just running great though... and I'd rather not fuck with an XP box that basically has an uptime of months and months despite all my game playing etc.

You still having fun in SL? I'm going to start logging back into it now that I'm back from vacation.

Or use ghost? You can ghost smaller drives to larger ones. (It'll automagically expand the size of the partition from the smaller one to fill the large one, if you set it)

Ghost costs roughly 1.8x the price of the new drive itself and that's exactly $69.95 more than I'm willing to spend on a one-time use utility from Crapantic.

And in a 5 minute search I failed to find it available for download through the 'usual sources' ... :P

HD Clone 2.0 from Miray software for $0.00 it is...

It's the DOS standalone, so you'll need a dos bootdisk/cd or something.
